The Stalwart User Guide

This guide is for you if you run a small business and want a bot that talks to your customers. You do not need to know about computers to follow it. We use plain words, and we explain each step.

What the Bot Builder is

The Bot Builder helps you make your own bot. A bot is a helper that answers your customers in a chat, by day and by night. You tell it what it may do for them, such as take a booking or look up an order. You also tell it what it must never do. It does only what you allow.

Your account

Your account is your own space at Stalwart. You sign in with your email address. There you can see your plan, how much your bots were used this month, and the people who work with you. You can invite people from your team and choose what each of them may change. Only the owner of the account sees the bill.

What your bot is made of

Your bot is made of four things you choose:

  • The tasks it may do. A list of what your bot may carry out for a customer, such as taking a booking. It can never do a task that is not on this list.
  • Your rules. What your bot must ask before it acts, and what it must never do. They hold every time, before anything happens.
  • Its own words. The sentences your bot uses to tell people what it did, written in your voice.
  • What its answers may say. Limits on its answers, so it never promises what you would not.

How your bot learns

Your bot gets better as people use it. When someone gives an answer a thumb up or a thumb down, you see where your bot understood them and where it did not. It also learns the words your customers use, and new ways they ask for things. It adds only what is safe to add, and you can undo any change.

How we keep your bot safe

Before your bot talks to anyone, we make sure it can only do what you allowed. Anything that is not ready yet is left out until it is, and your bot works without it. You do not have to do anything.

What it costs

These prices and limits come from the same list our sign-up page uses, so they are always up to date.

What comes next

The chapters of this guide are on their way. They take you step by step, from your first bot to the day it answers your customers. Until then, the words we explain tells you what the few technical words you may meet mean.
